Is the content on SDE a substitute for seeing a doctor?

Evidence rating

No. SDE content is educational: it explains mechanisms, rates evidence, identifies gaps in standard-of-care practice, and gives you the vocabulary for better clinical conversations. It is not a substitute for in-person physician examination, diagnostic testing, or the clinical judgment that requires seeing a patient, not just reading their labs.

The specific clinical boundary: SDE content teaches you what questions to ask. Your physician answers them for your specific body. The informed patient who arrives at a physician's office knowing what ApoB is, knowing that Lp(a) should be measured once in a lifetime, and knowing to ask whether their ASCVD risk calculation integrates hs-CRP as a risk-enhancing factor, that patient gets a categorically different clinical visit than the patient who arrives without that framework. SDE produces the first patient. The clinical system treats both of them. The gap between the two is the outcome difference SDE is trying to produce.

What to do: Use SDE content to become a more informed patient. Use the clinical system to implement what your informed patient status identifies as necessary.
